Afro Studio — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 August 2026

Afro Studio is an Android app for creating and playing West African polyrhythms. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is short because the app collects very little.

What we do not do

Afro Studio contains no advertising, no analytics, no tracking or profiling of any kind, and no third-party software development kits that collect data about you. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with anyone. We do not send you marketing e-mail.

What stays on your device

The rhythms you compose, your settings and your sound preferences are stored locally on your device. They are not transmitted anywhere unless you choose to publish a rhythm to the shared gallery.

The shared rhythm gallery

Afro Studio includes an optional shared gallery of rhythms contributed by users.

Rhythms and accounts carried over from earlier versions

Afro Studio previously ran a shared rhythm server that used e-mail addresses as usernames. That collection has been preserved and imported into the current gallery, so rhythms published in earlier years are still available. The gallery shows a short display name derived from the e-mail address recorded at the time (the part before the @); the full address is kept only on the server and is never shown publicly or returned by the gallery service. If you later sign in with that same address, your old rhythms are linked to your new account. If you published rhythms in the past and would like that record removed or altered, contact us at the address below.

Deleting your account

You may delete your account from within the app, or by writing to us. Deleting your account removes your e-mail address, display name and Google account identifier from our records.

Rhythms you published are not deleted. They remain in the public gallery, detached from your account and from any personal information, so that the shared collection stays intact for other learners. If you want a specific rhythm withdrawn as well, write to us and we will remove it.

How long we keep things

Account information is kept for as long as the account exists. Published rhythms are kept indefinitely, in anonymous form once an account is deleted.

Children

Afro Studio is a general-audience music app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Where data is processed

The gallery runs on Cloudflare infrastructure and data may be processed on servers outside your country of residence.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to the address below and we will act on your request.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially we will update this page and the date at the top.
